Team Decoration (DECO, previously LOC)

Hi! We are the DECO team; responsible for the appeal of the SHA2017 venue. We will be creating fantastic looking decoration pieces and awe-inspiring lighting. We are split up in two sub-teams with each two people as team-leads:

Sub-team Design

The design sub-team will handle the decoration of the terrain as well as the lighting.

Leads:

  • polyfloyd (floyd@polyfloyd.net)
  • Moem

Tasks:

  • Analog decoration (signs, billboards)
  • Lights (practical, nice-looking, hackable)

Immediate TODOs:

  • Think of ideas to execute.

Ideas (add ideas you want to incorporate):

Projects

  • The Design Language
    • Blocks/Cubes as a basis
    • SHA is an important protocol for block chains
    • Non-hitech to avoid alienating non-techy visitors
    • Needs to be colorfull
    • Welcoming
    • Subtle
    • If people are depicted in the design, minority groups should have priority
  • Signs
    • Reuse the OHM production technique. Lasercut letter stamps.
    • Signs that we should make (and make visible):
      • Toilet
      • Street signs ko
      • Emergency exits
      • First aid
      • The entrance from the parking (also parking sigs)
      • signs from the highway to to camp (preferably many) (auto-reflecting (or illuminated)!)
  • Entrance gate:
    • Scouting has offered to help construction of wooden things
    • Music?
    • Lights?
    • Flags?
    • Tunnel experience? (Like CC Congres)
  • Functional lighting
    • Lights to see how the streets are (e.g. sleeves at ohm, tl's at ccc)
    • Floodlights
    • Lighting of tents from the outside, gates, trees, other structures
    • The Loon, a wacky-inflatable-arm-flailing-tube-man like balloon that is inflated by a fan at the base along with some lights.
  • Decorative lighting
    • Reuse the OHM2013 LED poles.
      • Needs to be brighter to be functional (or jus place more)
      • Needs to be blockier
    • Big items such as the bar at ohm, or the big OHM2013 sign.
      • A giant LEDCube.
    • Roughly 10 items spread thoughout the camp.
  • Other
    • A LEDCube (fits the theme)
    • Make blocks that fit on shackles making literal blockclains
    • Infotent decoration

TODO

  • Recruit more members: everyone
  • Draft and manage design competition: polyfloyd

Sub-team Fabrication

The factory will produce decoration pieces before the event and provide support during the event.

During the event it will be located on the event terrain as a two 5x5 meter tents divided by a wall for messy and clean work. Available equipment are a few crates of standard handtools, tables and chairs, and the FabLab Truck.

There will be no heavy machinery because it would require too much time during the short buildup.

Leads:

  • fk (mail@folkert-kevelam.nl)
  • SA007

Tasks:

  • Off-site (beforehand) fabrication of electronics and signing, etc.
  • On-site (at the event) fabrication of spare-parts and repairs.

TODO

  • Inform at Hack42 about storage/workspace, or something near Zeewolde: SA007 en moem
    • Alternatives: Nearby hangar, big shed, vrijland (Hack42) barack, garagebox or somewhere near a farmer
  • Get a quote on the FabLab truck, crew and material for buildup (4 days) and camp: themba
  • Recruit more members: everyone

Cooperation with other Teams

What teams depend on Decoration?

  • The Communications-Team needs us for static communication (via signs) with the visitors.

Who do we depend on?

  • We need the Logistics and Buildup teams to move pre-built decoration pieces to the venue during the buildup.
  • We need the Power-Team to power our lights.
  • We need the NOC-Team to be able to control our interactive lights.
  • We need the partitioning plan for the terrain from (what team has this responsibility???) to estimate how much and what we need design for the terrain.
  • We need the Volunteer-Team for volunteers to help create the decoration pieces.

Teams that are dependent on the design:

  • Badge
  • Communication
  • Helpdesk
  • Online presense
