Practical and fun signs for on the terrain.

  • Signs
    • Adapt and reuse the OHM production technique. Lasercut letter stencils instead of stamps.
    • Signs that we should make (and make visible):
      • Toilets / showers
      • Tents (stages etc.)
      • Field name signs
      • Emergency exits
      • First aid
      • The entrance from the parking (also parking signs)
      • signs from the highway to to camp (preferably many) (auto-reflecting (or illuminated)!) this is probably off our plate.

Status

Possible implementation of theme as a sign:

  • According to the theme, a sign is a block with 6 colored stripes.
  • The width of a sign will be equal to 6 * <width of paint roller>
  • Paint the message using stencils
  1. Generate the colors for the message using https://5717.ch/SHA2017/design/ and the word 'Bordje'
  2. Pick the paint you need*
  3. Apply 6 strokes using each color to the sign board and let it dry
  4. Apply the message using stencils

We'll make 100 boards of 60x20cm (thickness <= 6mm)

Streets and places

The unpaved streets will have names based on the field names + the geographical direction. The field names will be the last names of the following people:

So your village might be situated on, for example, Snowden South or Goldwasser East.

Field names will be applied alphabetically from north to south, so the Wozniak field will probably be situated in the southern part of the terrain.

The (paved) roads will be

  • Backbone
  • North Trunk
  • South Trunk
  • Uplink

Memorials

This is a list of suggestions, not promises.

Memorials would be a cool way to introduce visitors new to technology related events in the past.

  • Debian bug memorial square
  • A fountain named "The Orwell"
  • A memorial for privacy online?
  • A memorial for Chriet Titulaer on the island.
