Control all the lights from your phone or laptop! Goal is to put 400m of LED strips around SHA2017 who's color you can change over the computer super highway.
The LED controller currently runs off of a Raspberry Pi using flask and communicating to a front end using websockets. Hardware wise there is a PWM driver, some mosfets, and then he LEDs themselves. Unlike more hip projects, this LED controller uses analog LED strips which are waaay cheaper (~1$/m).
Parts
- 400m LED RGB 5050 60 led/m silicone tube 12v strips
- 100 ESP32's
- 300 Mosfets
- 100 small junction boxes
- 12v power from somewhere (probably PSUs in IKEA boxes)
- cables and connectors
Dependencies
- TODO: Other teams needed?
- Would need help deploying physically several hundred meters of LED strips
- TODO: Permits required?
- Not that I know of
- TODO: Power in watts?
- 10w or 20w per meter, depending on how expensive of strips we get. Expect some loss in the power conversion circuitry as well.
- TODO: Network? Private network required?
- Network is required, private not needed. Would be good to know if there is POE available.
Status
Currently it works on a raspberry pi and is deployable. For scalability work is currently being done to reimplement on a ESP32 platform.
Howto: Buildup
- TODO: Where to get the stuff from?
- Aliexpress
- TODO: How many volunteers are required?
- Probably 2, but need to discuss with someone who has more experience
- TODO: How much time is required?
- TODO: Provide instructions on how to set up the installation on the event site.
Howto: Teardown
- TODO: Throw/give away?
- Give away to SHA or participants
